She was born the 3rd of December 1987 and grew up as the youngest of 4 children in Groningen (NL). It didn’t take long before Astrid discovered her talent and passion for music and singing. She first climbed onto a stage at the age of 9.
Several bands, gigs, and many experiences later she decided to audition at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she studied vocals and graduated in 2009. Concurrently she developed her skills as a proficient studio singer. This led her to becoming a jingle singer for national radio in 2006.
While finding great success with singing jingles for the radio, Astrid’s main goal has always been to express herself with her own original music. In 2008 the band STEREO was brought together on national television.
STEREO was signed by EMI Music, and the band released their well received debut album “MONOGAMY” in 2009. The singles Unexpected, Last Forever, Still Here and Do Ya all had a considerate amount of airplay on national radio. The band enjoyed two successful seasons of festivals and headlining club tours. By the time the second album was planned to be finished & released, the band split up in January 2011, due to friction with their label and management.
Immediately after, Astrid started to work and write with several producers, DJ’s, and other songwriters. This led to a number of national and international solo releases.
In 2012 her current band JOIN THE CAVALRY was founded, with which she’s now working on a debut album to follow up the release of a self titled EP in a packed ‘Bitterzoet’ in Amsterdam.
Parallel to Join the Cavalry, Astrid’s urge for versatility puts her on an exciting solo path, from which you’ll soon be hearing!
